Your business shouldn’t have to fit your software.Your software should fit your business.
Rented software can cost more than its subscription. Magic Assembly helps you decide whether to keep renting, optimize what you already have, or investigate owning a system designed around how your business works.

The Game Has Changed.
Custom software traditionally required a development team, specialized infrastructure, and ongoing technical support. For many businesses, the cost and complexity made it difficult to justify.
Specialized AI agents can assist with design, coding, testing, integrations, and deployment. Combined with managed infrastructure, they make custom software more practical to build and maintain.
Those same capabilities remain available to you after delivery. With training, your business can modify workflows, add features, and expand its applications without relying on a traditional development team for every change.
You own the application and its data.
No recurring license fee for the custom software you own.
You choose who develops and extends it.
Your software. Without the infrastructure headaches.
Own applications built around your business, without managing servers, databases, security infrastructure, or deployment systems. One managed platform provides the foundation to launch, operate, and expand your software as your needs evolve.
- Infrastructure
- Hosting, databases, file storage, deployment, and updates.
- Protection & reliability
- Authentication, access controls, backups, monitoring, and platform security capabilities.
- Connected intelligence
- AI models, integrations, and knowledge retrieval to connect systems and automate work.
- Room to grow
- Build and operate multiple applications without separate platform subscriptions for each.
One platform. Unlimited applications.
Start with one application. Add a customer portal, an internal operations tool, a reporting dashboard, or an AI-powered workflow as your business grows. No separate platform subscription for each application.
$99/month.
Standard single-user workspace subscription. Application development, ongoing support, AI usage, and applicable third‑party services are additional.
Your team uses the software. You manage the workspace.
A workspace member builds and manages applications. Employees using the finished application are different from workspace members.
For many businesses, one designated person can manage application improvements while the software serves employees across the organization. Unlike traditional per-seat SaaS licensing, the platform subscription does not automatically increase with every employee who uses the application.
Your workspace. Your applications. Your data.
When your software doesn’t fit, your business fills the gaps.
Most business software is built around how companies in your industry usually operate. Where your work doesn’t match, your people make up the difference. Over time the workarounds become so normal that nobody calls them a software problem.
Spreadsheets
Kept alongside the application because important information doesn’t fit.
Duplicate entry
The same information typed into more than one system.
Manual reporting
Reports assembled by hand because the software can’t produce them.
Email handoffs
Workflow steps that live in inboxes because the application doesn’t support them.
Disconnected systems
Several applications kept running because no single one fits the workflow.
Processes built around software limits
Extra steps added to accommodate how the software works.
Those workarounds have a cost.
Your software may be costing you more than the subscription.
Subscription fees are visible. Add-ons, overlapping applications and the employee time spent working around software limitations often aren’t.
Subscription fees
On the invoice.
Per-seat licensing
More employees can mean more licenses and higher recurring costs.
Price increases
At renewal.
Add-ons
Capabilities priced separately.
Overlapping applications
Bought to fill gaps.
Workaround time
Recurring employee work caused by a mismatch between your software and your process.
In the right situation, ownership can change that equation.
Sometimes renting is still the better economic choice. Sometimes it isn’t. That’s what the assessment is designed to determine.
Ownership isn’t always the answer.
Should you keep renting? Can the system you have be improved? Or have the costs and the friction reached the point where ownership deserves a closer look? The assessment weighs the evidence and returns one of four outcomes. It isn’t built to make the case for ownership.
Keep renting
Your software fits the business reasonably well. Ownership is unlikely to be justified.
See an exampleOptimize what you have
The software may be right. Configuration, training, integrations or consolidation could remove meaningful friction.
See an exampleInvestigate ownership
There may be enough recurring cost, workaround labor or structural mismatch to justify evaluating a system designed around your business.
See an exampleNot enough information
There isn’t enough evidence yet for a responsible recommendation. That’s a useful result too.

If renting is the right answer, we’ll tell you.
Run the assessmentWhen the software fits the business, the work gets simpler.
Instead of stitching together generalized software, spreadsheets, email, manual steps and several applications, Magic Assembly can build a system around how your business actually operates.
Work scattered across tools
- Spreadsheets
- Email handoffs
- Manual processes
- Separate applications
One connected system
- Operations and workflows
- Approvals and automation
- Reporting and management tools
- Customer or partner portals
- Accounting
- Existing apps
Less duplication. Fewer workarounds. A system that fits.
What we buildOwn the software without owning all the overhead.
Owning software often meant two extra jobs: running the infrastructure and keeping developers on staff. Neither has to come with a system you own.
Own the software. Not the infrastructure headaches.
Magic Assembly applications can run on a managed platform that brings together the infrastructure needed to operate modern business software, including hosting, databases, authentication, storage, backups, monitoring, and deployment.
Much of the underlying platform infrastructure, maintenance, and security operations is handled for you, so your business doesn’t need to build an infrastructure team around its applications.
Magic Assembly also helps ensure applications are designed with appropriate security, access controls, and testing from the start.
Development capacity when you need it. Not payroll when you don’t.
When your application needs to change, you have options.
Your team can use the same AI-assisted development environment to modify workflows, add features, and expand your software.
Magic Assembly can also help with more complex changes or additional development when needed.
You don’t need a permanent development department, or a permanent dependency on Magic Assembly, to keep improving your application.
You choose who does the development work.

Platform capabilities support your applications; using some of them requires configuration or development as part of your project. Magic Assembly development and support are not part of the platform subscription. Platform security capabilities do not by themselves make an application compliant with SOC 2, HIPAA, or other regulations.
When your application is complete, Magic Assembly transfers it into your own workspace, including its source code, database, configuration, and deployed application. Your business controls the workspace and pays the platform provider directly. After training, you can continue developing your application yourself or engage Magic Assembly whenever you want additional help.
- Software designed around your workflows, not the other way around.
- An application and data your business owns and controls, instead of ongoing rented access to generalized software.
- The ability to keep improving it as your business changes.
A software foundation that can expand with the business.
As your business grows, your software can grow with it. Add workflows, applications, portals, integrations, automation, or AI capabilities to the system you already own, without starting from scratch each time.
Instead of adding another rented product for every new need, you can build on what you already own.
Internal tools
Custom applications for your team
New workflows
Automate and simplify how work gets done
Customer portals
Give customers or partners secure access
Integrations
Connect with the systems you already use
Automations
Reduce manual work and errors
AI capabilities
Add AI where it’s genuinely useful
Each addition still involves development work, and usage-based costs such as AI models or third-party services may apply. Some new needs are still better served by software you rent.
You own the software. You choose how it evolves.
Owning your software doesn’t mean becoming an infrastructure company or hiring a development department.
